I want to be a princess…
She was waiting for me in the doorway, wearing a wedding gown.
(I’m not gonna lie, I had a panicked moment where I pictured my little girl all grown up and walking down the aisle…)
Today, though, she was a princess, down to the princess slippers on her tiny, 3-year-old feet.
“Sweetheart,” I said, “it’s kind of cold outside. Why are you wearing a gown?”
My daughter sat down, looked up at me with her big eyes, and said, “Daddy, I want to be a princess. A real princess.”
Sitting down next to her, I took her hand and looked right in her eyes…
“You know what? You already are a princess. It’s not what you wear on the outside – not the gown or the princess slippers or the curls in your hair… Being a princess is in how you feel about yourself, in your head and in your heart.”
I’m still not sure if she understood (she’s only three, after all), but as I was saying it to her, it kind of spoke to me as well…
That being ‘successful’ isn’t about what I wear, or how big my bank account is…
It’s about how I feel in my heart and in my mind about how successful I am.
It’s easy to get drawn in by the image people present in the ads we see on TV or in our Facebook feed…
But how often do we look inside to see how we truly feel about ourselves and our own level of success, and let that guide us forward?
Are we allowing our perception of others’ successes to derail our own progress by painting a false picture of what success really means?
That evening, as I looked across the dinner table at my wife and daughter, in the comfortable home I’ve been able to provide for my family…
I knew what success really means for me.
We often hear people say “What’s your WHY in your business?” – and they mean “What motivates you to keep at it every day? Why do you do what you do?”
I challenge you to look deep inside… talk to your inner princess if you have to ;)… but find your WHY.
Find what motivates you to get up every morning and keep going even when times are tough.
And then hit reply to this email and take a moment to share what your WHY is. Because knowing your WHY is the first step toward knowing what success really looks like for you.
To finding your inner princess,
